About Check Every Shade

Brought together by a shared interest in dermatology, non-traditional pre-medical students Aziza and Morenike met through the American Academy of Dermatology’s Dermatology Career Prep program. They quickly connected over their Atlanta roots, passion for community service, and desire to make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom. That connection grew into a shared vision, and Check Every Shade was born.

In partnership with AIM at Melanoma, Check Every Shade brings greater melanoma awareness, education, and representation to Black communities.

Mission

Our mission is to increase melanoma awareness and prevention in the Black community by bringing clear, accessible skin health education directly to community spaces.

Vision

We envision a future where Black communities have the knowledge and confidence to recognize signs of melanoma, protect their skin, and seek care when something looks or feels different.

Values

Awareness. Prevention. Representation. Community. We believe Black communities deserve skin health education that reflects their experiences and gives everyone the tools to take an active role in protecting their skin.
